This tribute is a really special one

This tribute is a special one and there is so much I could write...

When I started creating Tribute Glosses, I wanted to partner with equestrians and share their stories. Celebrate their partnerships. Highlight their journeys. I didn't really think I would ever be writing about me and my horse. But, one day, when I was playing around in my office, experimenting with new ingredients and creating new colors, I created a gloss that I knew could only have one name...Ego.

I knew Ego was special from the first time I sat on him. He was 5 years old, had just been imported, the wiggliest horse I had ever ridden, and he tried so hard to do anything I asked of him. I honestly didn’t know what he’d turn out to be since he hadn’t done much when I got him, but I wanted him for his brain, his sweet demeanor and of course that forelock.

Me & Ego in 2015

Almost 11 years later (wow, time sure does fly) and he is everything I dreamed he’d be and more. He is the smartest horse I have ever encountered. He always tries to be one step ahead of me, so sometimes I do have to slow his brain down a bit, but he looks at an exercise and immediately tries to figure it out. Once he does, I’m really just along for the ride. If you do a pattern, it’s like cheating because he will figure it out and then he's on autopilot. He is so athletic, with the bounciest trot and the boingiest jump. He would jump fire, but will also spook at his own cough. He thinks he could be a horse in the wild, wanting to be outside 24/7 and he LOVES the cold, but also believes he should be spoiled and pampered, like he of course is, living with three fans all summer long.

Me & Ego this past winter

We’ve done the hunters, jumpers and derbies. He has shown all over, up and down the east coast. He has the most massive stride, making the leave out look completely in stride. He jumps with so much enthusiasm that sometimes it feels like I’m getting ejected into the clouds. And there is no hill in the world that he doesn’t want to gallop up.

He really is one of kind. A total character. The biggest sweetheart with such a big personality.

The past year especially has been hard on him. Both of us really. It seems like he just hasn't been able to catch a break health-wise. When we finally figure something out or get something under control, it seems like something else pops up almost immediately. But through it all, it has grown our bond even stronger. We have spent time out of the saddle growing our relationship. I have learned how to read his tiny, subtle and very polite ways of showing me that something isn't right. We have snuggled lots and I love him even more than I thought I could.

While I love riding him more than anything in the world, all I really want is for him is to feel his best. He has a home with me forever and that can look however he wants it to.

So, I thought there was no better time than now to honor my guy with his very own Tribute Gloss shade. It's the prettiest shade of pink, but it's not just an average pink, because Ego isn't just an average guy. It's a rosy pink, without being too soft and muted, and it has a gorgeous sparkle from gold glitter, because only the best for Ego. I have not stopped wearing it since I created it, and I hope you love it as much as I do!
