Makeup doesn’t need to be complicated. It doesn't need to be this scary, unattainable thing. It doesn’t need to be a time commitment. And you certainly don’t have to train and watch hundreds of videos to be able to achieve an every day look that you love.
There is something so powerful about seeing your beautiful skin glow with the right products on. I want makeup to be attainable for anyone who wants to wear it. Makeup should be easy to apply, work into your daily routine and make you feel amazing. So, if you knew nothing about makeup, here are the five things I would want you to know:
-
Your base should match your neck. No, your face and your neck are not necessarily the same color, so be sure to match your neck. Whether you’re wearing something as light as a tinted moisturizer or a full coverage foundation, you want to match your neck. The last thing you want is to have a line at your jawline showing the world that you have a face of makeup on.
-
Once you think you’ve worked product into the skin, work it in a little more. The best way to get a flawless finish to your makeup is by gently working it into the skin. Whether you use a brush, blender or your hands, keep working the product into the skin for that skin-like finish.
-
Your hands are the greatest applicator. Especially in a hurry, your hands are the greatest asset when it comes to makeup application. The warmth of your skin helps products melt into the skin in the best way possible. Your hands allow you to get maximum coverage from the products while giving you the most natural application and finish. Tip: when applying concealer, instead of using a brush, try tapping the product into your skin with your fingers.

You just need 3 staples for your every day look: a base, a blush and mascara. If I was running out the door and only had 2 minutes, I would apply a base, blush (especially one that doubles as lip color, or even eyeshadow, like our Tints) and mascara. These three products give you a lovely, polished look, and quickly. P.S. If you don’t have time for lip color, rock a natural lip with a good lip balm that gives you some moisture and a little glossy finish. *Try our Chapless Lip Balm*

Never skimp on moisturizer. You may feel tempted to skip moisturizer when it’s hot out or if you’ll be getting sweaty, but the most important step for good makeup application is well-prepped skin. No matter what time of year, use a good moisturizer before you apply your makeup.
At the end of the day, just keep it simple. Do what works for you, makes you happy and makes you feel beautiful. And if you need help, send me a DM on Instagram @urgobeauty.
