Breaking Down this Summer's Beauty Trends

There is so much information that you can consume on makeup trends, dos and don'ts, tips and tricks, etc. It can get overwhelming! So, I'm sharing my thoughts on what Forbes deems as this summer's top beauty trends. So saddle up, because let's face it, I've never been someone who blindly follows the trends, so I have opinions.

  1. "Low Maintenance Luxury": This is a definite yes from me. Think about relaxing, happy, fun summer vibes...but for your skin. This trend calls for the look of effortless makeup, which I'm always all for. Except, I like to take it one step further- not only should it look effortless, but it should be easy to do! So, multi-tasking products are here to stay (like our Tints😉) for an easy yet cohesive look. This trend also calls for lighter bases like tinted moisturizers, BB Creams and CC Creams.
  2. Tinted Lip Balms: I'm not going to lie to you, lip color has just never been my thing. The thing I can most confidently say about makeup is you will never catch me with a bold lip. I'm all for adding color, moisture and gloss, so a lip gloss or balm will always be my go to. Add a little color? Yes please!
  3. Dewy Blush: The rise of the cream blush continues. This really ties into #1 with that effortless look. A cream blush provides a soft, subtle flush that will give you color without looking unnatural. Now, the part of this trend I can't get onboard with is the  “sunburn aesthetic." This is a no for me, dawg. This is the trend where people are adding blush to their cheeks and nose, all the way across. As someone with fair skin who burns easily, I'm not sure why anyone would want to create this look. I also think it goes against the effortless look with that much blush.

  4. Sunscreen Hybrids: Sunscreen is a daily must, so any product that combines makeup and sunscreen gets my vote. I know I used to always skip sunscreen, but as I've gotten older and taken better care of my skin, I can't stress the importance enough. So, any product that helps add protection gets my vote. Where I differ from this article is that they only mention mineral sunscreen. I know everyone looks for make up that is "clean" and "natural" these days, but you have to understand that these aren't regulated terms so they don't really mean all that much. Mineral does not always mean better. People often shy away from chemical sunscreen because studies have shown concerns over certain ingredients. Do you know what those ingredients are? Do you check to see if products contain them? That's a better way to go than swearing off chemical sunscreen. The most known ingredients people want to stay away from are oxybenzone and avobenzone, niether of which are in our sunscreen. Mineral sunscreen is heavier on the skin and often provides a white cast, which is why I don't prefer it. Really, either option has pros and cons, but the best sunscreen for you is one that your skin tolerates and that you will actually use.

I'm very happy that effortless makeup (or low maintenance luxury) is here to stay. The caked up look is gone, hopefully forever, so you can let your skin glow and your natural beauty shine. Makeup should be used to enhance, not cover you up. I want to see your beautiful face! Now put on some suncreen and have a great ride!

Chelsea
