I've been there! My skin is so sensitive, especially to new products. So, I totally get the skepticism about wearing makeup when your skin is sensitive. For a long time it made me scared to try new products, but I don't want that to happen to you too. You can certainly try new products and even wear makeup daily with sensitive skin. Here are a few precautions you can take to help:

Select Products Carefully

So what does this mean? First, I always look for products that are labeled "hypoallergenic" or "non-comedogenic." Non-comedogenic means that it is less likely to clog your pores therefore reducing the risk of irritation, especially if you are acne-prone like me. It doesn't mean a product can't clog your pores, so keeping up with your skincare regimen is still essential.

It's also important to read the ingredients. I look for natural, skin-calming ingredients such as chamomile and shea butter. I also select products that are completely paraben and fragrance free.

Test The Products Out

It's important to test products on your skin. That's why I love when companies offer samples and why URGO does. First, start with a small amount of product in one small area. Wear it a few different times, building up the length of time you wear it. If you ever feel skin irritation be sure to remove the product immediately. Also, only test one product at a time. This way you will know exactly what causes the irritation.

I also like to test products when I am home and don't have anywhere to go. It's never a great idea to try a new product for the first time for a special occasion.

Lean On What You Know

When I find products that I love and that my skin loves they become staples in my makeup routine. So, for areas that are extra sensitive, like my eyelids, I always apply a staple product first. I like my trusted product to be the layer directly on my skin and can then apply additional products over top. I find this helps reduce irritation with eyeshadow, which has always been a tricky product for me.

So, barn babe, I hope next time you want to try a new product you won't be scared. Follow these steps so you're never afraid to expand your makeup horizons again.
